Baker & Honey

Took me out to brunch and found a little spot that might be my new cozy hiding space…

In case you are wondering who “me” is, allow me to introduce myself, I’m Liz a podcaster that covers politics, wellness, and activism. I sometimes like to write, hence the occasional blog here and there about food, my other passion. Today’s food journey brings me to a local Waterbury Spot called Baker & Honey.

Don’t let the small spot fool you. It’s big on comfort and hospitality with the host even wanting to help a wandering pup outside (bonus points for kindness). The prices are perfect for those who want to dabble in a bit of everything on the menu without breaking the already strained wallet. *In case you're wondering what happened to the dog, he was seen riding off in the back of his owner's car safe and sound.

Parking was a bit of an obstacle, but nothing that should deter you from the local gem, just pull around to the side and park on the street. The hum of 70’s soul plays over the speaker setting the ambiance for ease and comfort. 🎶Ain’t no stopping us now!

Folks I do not say this lightly but the chai latte was the best I’ve had locally or anywhere in a long time. The nutty warm chai is velvety smooth. No additional sweetener is needed. It’s thick, not the watered-down version of chai that I’ve unfortunately become accustomed to. There are some chocolate tones that complement the cinnamon flavors. New morning drink stop? I’m thinking definitely maybe.

I opt for the Double Chocolate Espresso Muffin and some Crispy Tots *add the cheese & bacon, please.

Baker & Honey Muffin and Crispy Tots

Too cool for tots? I think not. Crispy and hot, just add the ketchup and sour cream. No soggy bacon, just crisp and clean. The cheese is perfectly melted, not that over-hard cheese crisp type of melt. Also, the ratio of cheese to tot is down to a science with each bit having a nice balance. Leftovers? Of course! Can’t wait to revisit these tasty treats before logging in to work from home; 2022 isn’t starting off bad *just insert million dollars in the bank and all is complete.

Now, the winner of this meal would have to be the Double Chocolate Espresso Muffin. So moist and flavor-wise, it's not a party in your mouth, but more like a nice hug to start the day. I appreciate that it is not a fall apart before it reaches your mouth type of muffin. There is just enough hold to grab each piece, making the texture smooth with no crumbs running down your shirt. While it's double chocolate it's not overly sweet, so you won’t leave feeling like your gonna crash after an intense sugar rush. It's a grown-up kind of muffin and I’m cool with it.

In closing, Baker and Honey is the perfect local spot that is a great hangout for those looking for a sanctuary in a town that has few spots to just chill. It's a needed reprieve from the franchise restaurants taking over the town. So Baker & Honey I pray you are here to stay. Until next visit!

Happy Eating!
